Are there any SportTracks users out there? I've been looking at it recently and have been very impressed. I'm wondering though, what particular features of it any of you "expert users" use the most? So: - do you use it? - how? Or has anyone used it and then decided to give it up? If so, why?

Hollywoof wrote:Are there any SportTracks users out there? So: - do you use it? - how? Afternoon Mr. Woof, nice site you have here! I have been using it for a fair while in parallel with Fetch, so I mainly use it for things which Fetch won't really do for me: looking in great detail at heart rates and pace; correcting Forerunner tracks if the GPS lock has gone off; assessing distance climbed - the elevation plug-in works quite well, certainly better than the GPS values unless you are using bridges or going along the side of a steep slope; figuring out just where the heck it was I ran on some random route or another trusting to my sense of direction to get me home again; generally playing with maps in a pointless but entertaining way! I would probably use the equipment logging (for shoes) and the analysis reports more if I wasn't doing all that on Fetch. My main *dis*like is the pace graphing; stopping to cross a road or blow your nose or something gives you a massive spike which compresses the rest of the curve and it can be a real nuisance trying to make sense of the rest of the plot, which is what's interesting. I think this is supposed to be improved in the most recent version.

Cheers Badger. When you get back to full speed, I'll be interested to hear your comments on charting on here - one thing I quite like looking at are the maps with speed overlaid (they're slow to draw but sexy to see) - but I think I might need to add some more filtering and maybe some user customisation. There are a few other maps I might draw too - I'll put up a post with some of my ideas at some point - and i hope others will put up their ideas too. I'm also thinking about integration of the website with sporttracks...

I just used the SportTracks software with the RunSaturday Plugin to export todays run.
Everything worked ok and with the added benefit of getting the edited elevation data from the elevation Plugin in SportTracks

I use it, mainly because of the Heart Rate stuff and the graphs that can be created to make sense of the data

I'm a huge fan of SportTracks. I just installed the RunSaturday plug-in. My plug-in list: RunSaturday ApplyRoutes GarminFitness AfterImport ElevationCorrection UniqueRoutes TRIMP TrainingLoad If you have a heart rate monitor you should check out Training Load.

Yup - I've spent far too much of the last few days reading up the training load thread - plus about TRIMP and friends. I'm not a heart rate user myself (I do wear it for some cycling but find it too uncomfortable for running) - but am loving reading about it.

I think the Garmin strap is one of the least comfortable. It doesnt need to be any tighter than just to stay in place. There seems to be a trend towards much more comfortable strap. Polar Wearlink or something. Some allow the HR gizmo to attach directly to the running top - no strap to chaff. On the SportsTracks front the ability to see a particular mile in your splits - see the location on the map and your heart rate in that period - is so far beyond what the Garmin software allow they should be ashamed of the software supplied. On the training load take a look at the Suunto Firstbeattechnology sites. They are into EPOC and allow (not ggod for road bike or ruuning) a USB gizmo to pick up your heart rate data in real time and show HR plotted and training load etc. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Excess_post-exercise_oxygen_consumptionhttp://www.pponline.co.uk/encyc/training-schedules.htmlNow I think about it TRIMP and EPOC are different flavors of the same concept in fact I think beacause Suunto are using some mysterious HR data R-R and seem to be able to determine ventilation etc EPOC might just be a more data based version of the same thing. I would love to know how "good" the science behind the R-R interval is. And what can be actually calculated and know is guestimated. Cheers Chris

Hi,
I'm using Sporttracks since about 2 months now and love it. It gives me lots of data and what/where/how fast/HRM I was training...and with the plugin it's extremely easy to export to Run Saturday!
Cheers.

So far all my training is imported into SportTracks and then uploaded to here. The one thing that SportTracks doesn't do that the Polar software used to allow you to flag an entry as not counted in totals. ie, I'm only really interested in my running miles, I'm not bothered about cycling miles - they're not important to me, but it's nice to have a record of it. I know you can do that here, but you have to rememeber to uncheck all the boxes on the graphs.
Also, I find being able to put runs against equipment useful to log how many miles my various shoes have done.

Hi Woof!
I'm also a SportTrack user! Much beter then the average Garmin Connect or Training Center. Regarding Garmin Connect, for me it's impossible to view reports because of an error. They would fix it in a new release, 6 months ago now..
But Sporttracks, love it. Easy to use, lot of plugins, and easy to backup and upload! Select my Garmin 405 and uploading is starting. Do you have something in mind??
Is it important tommorrow?
