I've read lots of reviews... and the Samsung Tab sounds like the best of the non-Apple pads right now - the Archos sounds quite fiddly in comparison. Also just seen - http://www.engadget.com/2010/12/06/googles-andy-rubin-live-from-d-dive-into-mobile/ - 3.0 is coming! Looks like I'm not going to buy anything before Xmas - looks like next year things will be cheaper and better... Can't see these things ever really replacing my PC completely though!

The Archos 101 is indeed fiddly. Will crash around 2 times a day. But as an early adopter, you know the risks.
I only used my PC to surf, email and music. All can be done on my Archos. The "only" things I miss: photo editing in PS, making maps in Runsaturday, I still need to convert movies on my PC to make it work on my Archos, typing big email/documents.
So my PC is my power-computer, my tablet will become my daily-use-computer.
In my opinion, this will shift even more in the near future, although keyboard input will be difficult on a tablet.

Definitely can see me getting a tablet for browsing and for multimedia (my phone use is so infrequent I'd happily get a tablet instead of a phone...) However, crashing twice a day is unacceptable - and the Google Android fragmentation just feels nasty - by doing less, Apple are getting it right - drats! I'll watch and see what gets released in January - there's a big CES show in Las Vegas and I'm sure there will be lots of tablets fighting it out for attention before the inevitable ipad2 launch near Easter! Shiny shiny toys - love em :)

2 crashes a day is indeed unacceptable, still not sure were it comes from. Mainly when my girlfriend is using the tablet. The future will bring much better tablets, watch for the Notion Ink Adam, if they deliver what they promise, it will be great!

On the web there are some reaonable doubts about if the Notion Ink Adam is a scam. So be wary...

Still waiting on the license for the Android app - but soon hopefully, soon. On the tablets, I'm expecting to see a whole pile of new tablets at the CES show - just after chrimbo - will be thousands of new toys on show. Also, have applied for http://www.google.com/chromeos/pilot-program-cr48.html - I can hope :)

The Galaxy Tab has now slipped to under 400 pounds here in Blighty... I'm just about resisting :)

Hi, I hope it's okay that being new to the site I jump in...I'm just setting myself up to track my running activities using my heartrate monitor and gps. While digging around the internet I stumbled into SportTracks and here. I have an HTC Hero (2.1) and a Dell Streak (stuck currently on 1.6 ). I've started to use MyTracks to record my gps and an S410 Polar hrm that I have to sync with Polar Software just so I can get at the hrm file to then upload to the app/website. I've installed SportTracks on my laptop but plan to primarily use my Streak as an ultra mini pc when I travel for work and the HTC is nice and small to carry while I run. Like a lot of other people, I've moved away from syncing to desktop and migrating to the cloud - and the android just does this so well. I now primarily use my laptop only for heavy work. There currently doesn't appear to be that many 'integrated' options available right now to record gps/hrm info and sync or upload. I know for myself, there's a lot of file handling and processing. I'm thinking about updating my hrm to the Zephyr HxM bluetooth, and a single app on my android to handle this would be awesome. The little research I've done is leading me to bluetooth over ANT+. I've looked at a few of the apps currently available and get a sense they are still pretty proprietary and I'm hesitant to make that kind of commitment. Open source is a wonderful thing. All the talk about developing an android app to sync gps tracks (and hrm?) is very exciting. If you need a beta tester (HTC Hero and/or Streak), I'd love the opportunity. Jacqui

Definitely OK to jump in - especially with such intelligent input. I really want to buy an Android tablet - no idea what I'll use it for, but the latest Android 3.0 stuff from the CES show looks lovely - "coming soon"!

Yes - same for me. The new Android tablets look very, very promising. ;-) Some more interesting news from CES: Android and ANT+ (first with phones from Sony Ericsson): http://ht.ly/3zsJghttp://ht.ly/3zslthttp://twitpic.com/3nn1pjHopefully they can enable this for more phones (as far as I understand some more phones from HTC and Motorola Droid X/Milestone have supporting chips from Texas Instruments already). Kind regards, Jens

Still using my Android 2.2 Archos 101 Tablet after 3 weeks. It is still great and definately the future of portable, home-use computers. Android 2.2 on a tablet is still a little like Windows ME in the old days; a little buggy, but already a nice product.
Hope to see some nice apps coming up in the future.
