I've got one, but am really thinking I should have gone with the 305 instead. I'm just wondering if there are other satisfied 405 owners in our ranks before I let loose* on a long rant about it.

*Which will require me to get around to writing said rant first.

I borrowed one last year...
- it was quick to get lock
- I loved the little clip for recharging
- at first I misunderstood the scroll bevel - but once I'd realised you needed to use The Force as well as touching it, then I even managed to operate it once.

...sounds like you should let loose :)

I love my garmin 405cx..........just can not get my latest run to upload though.

found the issue the run was a 35km one. too large for the normal uploads. I had to install garmin TC export to tcx, zip it and then it worked.........bit labour intensive but I got there in the end ;-)

I don't mind mine. I like the fact that it uploads itself ... I'm really bad about remembering to do stuff like that so having it upload automatically when I log onto the computer ... NICE! There are some days when the bezel is a bit 'touchy' and I have some difficulty scrolling to where I need to be. My biggest 'beef' is having it kick out of the satellite screen because I haven't pushed start yet. If I set my watch up too soon before the rest of the group have theirs set up ... mine will kick out and I have to go back in to set it up again. Doesn't take long, but it's a pain. I lost about 1K of a run once because I didn't realize it had kicked out until I had started running. ARGH! My other 'beef' with it is battery life. I'm forever charging it! My husband has the 305 and there are definitely benefits to both. I like his battery life and the fact that it doesn't kick out of the training screen after a matter of time. I really don't like his size and fit though. I find mine more comfortable to wear. I guess it's what one gets used to!

I hated my 405 so much I sent back and asked Garmin to replace it with another 305.
I hated the:
small screen (I need reading glasses but I can't run in them!)
bezel (far too sensitive for me when I'm on the move)
ANT upload stick thing (my kids kept removing it!)
I never knew when it would run out of juice and kept it on charge always just in case.

Hola,

I had problems with my 405. But e-mailed Garmin informing them of the problem. I promptly received reply with the instructions to rectify the issue.
Been enjoying using it ever since. As you can see from my profile pic

A friend has a 405 now but I wasn't too impressed with his though he likes it and says it's more accurate and he likes the wireless automatic uploading. He does have to wear it on backwards with the face down against his arm when it's raining though he says so the rain drops don't activate the touch sensitive screen.

I'm still using a 301 though I'm considering upgrading soon to the 305 (which my brother uses) because of the better accuracy under tree cover which is better for orienteering and hashing.

I prefer the large display of the 305 though I'm not so keen on the watch strap as I like my velcro one on the 301. Every rubber watch strap I've used has broken so I don't want this happening on an expensive GPS unit. I think I'll try to replace the 305 strap with the 301 strap if it will fit.

james head your mate needs to read the manual.
The rain sets off the touch sensitive bezel. All he needs to do is at the start of the run switch to training mode.......... then before he presses the start/enter button..............press and hol the quit button and then press the start/enter button at the same time. This turns off the bezel and then ghe uses the start / enter button to start the training.

He can have upto 3 screens of info cycling through automatically while he is running.

If I have one criticism of the 405 it is that the quick start guide or whatever should have *LOOK PEOPLE, YOU CAN LOCK THE BEZEL, IT'S REAL SIMPLE* on the top of every page.

I've had my 405 for about a year, love it. If it is raining, or I'm wearing a jacket, I LOCK THE BEZEL. IT ISN'T DIFFICULT, PEOPLE.
