In case anyone wants to do it, entries are open today -

http://www.rlss-poole.org.uk/

It's a great race - 4 miles with the tide and with good organisation. After 3 years in a row, sadly I can't do it this year - the date is wrong for me :/

It will sell out fast - get your entry in today!

Only just noticed your recommendation on this one (4.6 miles I think?). As you say, it filled up fast. It filled in 3 weeks, despite increasing entries from 150 to 200. Symptomatic of huge interest in OW events this year. I entered in March and found myself in a waiting list of 50! Have to content myself with 3 man Channel Relay in July, and the Brighton P2P!

If you can keep the date clear, Zeus, then they normally send out a reminder about 2 weeks before the swim - that's the day when the waiting list normally starts to get used (although sadly there are also some no shows on the day too)

It's definitely grown as an event - when we first did it four years ago then it was 75 people and still had places 4 weeks before the race.

What a fantastic and well organised event, really enjoyable, 4 miles or 4.6miles - whatever! They actually now start at the same point by the JLewis Castle Beach as the finish - so a true circuit. Managed 2hr 1min in the non-wetsuit category (pleasing there were 18 mostly younger guys behind me in wetsuits, apart from the 7 non-suited males of all ages). Next year's is on 31st July.

Superb Zeus - glad you got in and that you had a great experience too :) Hopefully we'll be back next year - hopefully!

I'm thinking about doing this next year (if it coincides with the school holidays!). Is there anywhere to camp in the area? We don't drive so we'd be backpacking and need to be near public transport

Despite increasing to 250 swimmers, the 2011 event closed in one week, with an immediate waiting list of 50! Remarkable! Happily I'm in again - a prelude to another channel swim in August and the usual south-coast events.
Did anyone make the Henley Dawn swim? 300 places sold out online in two tranches in 15minutes on two Sunday evenings! And that's to swim at 4.00am!

That is so huge compared to just 2 years ago! Glad they've found more ferries! We missed it... are own fault... next time...

Well.... Shiraz has just gotten a place for Sunday - and I'm next on the reserve list - so we will be there :)

If I'm swimming I might go wetsuit free - as I don't really fit in my wetsuit any more (fb)

Hope for some sunshine :)

You may well see Zeus there on Sunday, although if his next Channel relay comes up ahead of time you could be taking his spot!

Best of luck to Shiraz, and to you if you're in!

I'm now in... not sure if it's wetsuit or not... got to choose.

Have also got to sleep - very early start tomorrow!

Will hopefully see Zeus there - if not, then hope he has a great relay!
