This autumn, London will be the host of Nike Running’s unique game - the GRID.
The GRID: Run Your City will see tribes of runners from the four corners of London do battle, as runners are asked to show their allegiance to the North, East, South or West. For two weeks, Nike is turning London into a game board and encouraging runners to prove they’ve got what it takes to claim the crown. From Friday 22nd October at 6pm until Saturday 6th November until 6pm, play GRID: Run your City to claim territory across 48 London postcodes.
Stoking the rivalry will be four ambassadors each with a passion for running and a desire to see their region rise to the top. Representing her local neighbourhood, keen runner and rising songstress Eliza Doolittle will play for West London. Eliza revealed “Running helps me stay focussed in between gigs and I’m ready to take a new running challenge by leading the West to win the crown!”
Professor Green will be leading the troops in East London, proving that spitting fast lyrics isn’t just where his talents lie. Professor Green explained, “I may not be a pro athlete but I’m a pro player - North, South and West don’t stand a chance!”
Whilst fast footed Arsenal striker Theo Walcott will keep his loyalties rooted in the North by swapping the pitch for pavements. Theo commented,“ My pace on the pitch gives me the competitive edge and I’m going to make sure it speeds the North to victory!”
And for those from South London, England rugby star Danny Care will be helping his tribe run their way to triumph. Danny said,“ I’m ready to stir up some rivalry and battle for the title. Let’s put South of the river back on the map!”
Scoring points for speed, endurance and stamina gamers will run between phone boxes; competing for top place on the GRID leader board. Competitors can play on their own or as part of a team, and students can run for their London Uni. With Nike+, savvy players will be able to clock up extra bonus points, winning points via their knowledge of insider routes or speedy footwork. The more ways you run, the higher you will score and the more territory you can claim. Run for badges. Run records. Run glitches. Run more postcodes. Run to be crowned.
After the two weeks of game play, winners from each postcode will be crowned and celebrated on their home turf – with their names tagged across local phone boxes across the cities.
