Welcome to a new blog and a new blog entry.

Over the coming months, I'll try to post here whenever there's news to share about the site... about new ideas and about new functionality.

Sometimes this will be to spread news about new features, sometimes this will be to help explain how things work, and sometimes this will be to ask what people think.

For a starter:

  • What do people think about this new skin?

Re: A first blog entry

First off, having a background in design, I must say I'm really liking the new skin. Looking at the screenshot for the homepage things appear more structured. I'm sure it's something you'll carry through to the navigation itself. As much as I love the site, I have always had issues with the navigation, but as you have said, it's something you're taking a good look at over the next while.

The logo isn't as large anymore, and looks integrated now because of the color scheme, much nicer.

I don't see a "your friends" button so I can check on the guys. I'm sure it's in there somewhere though. As-well, there was an issue with a user recently regarding adding "friends", will this be something that will be simplified? Perhaps with a member search function/list?

In the end, the new look is much more professional and representative of the content.

Re: A first blog entry

This is going to sound negative when it isn't meant to be - I have no strong feelings eeither way about the new skin. Sorry.

Greg - one thing you might have an opinion on... as well as other people too

What do people think of the popup lightboxes for entering data? Should they stay or go?

Re: A first blog entry

ehh, i'm not so sure. here are my issues:

1) the two most common tasks on runsaturday (for me, at least) are adding a new workout and looking at the analysis view (either list view or the weekly charts). i can't navigate directly to either one of these in the red navigation bar at the top of the page. to be a bit more pointed, the "navigation" bar is just not that useful.

2) i often do custom cuts of my data (e.g., just looking at my swims, narrowing the date range to the last six months, etc.). the controls to do that are now at the *bottom* of all my data in list view. i don't need to see my profile pic when i'm analyzing my training.

3) the red & yellow in the new skin are both really loud and visually jarring.

i love the site and am fully committed, so don't get me wrong.

also, on the fb updates, would be good to post time as well as the distance for individual workouts.

check out it is the runstaurday of golf and has a really nice layout and navigation. again, all just one guy's opinion

Re: A first blog entry

Thanks Jason,

Thats really useful feedback.

We've plenty of things we still want to change and grow, so its enormously helpful to get input and guidance on what works and what doesn't

Thanks again!

Re: A first blog entry

Great stuff guys, loving the new design and just wondering if there is any way of overlaying the various activity logs onto a single map?

Re: A first blog entry

Thanks Rick :)

I did a demo of that over on - just enter Tizzy, then scroll the timebar at the top.

It didn't get much feedback...

If you'd like to see it in the site, please come over to Talk and start a campaign :)
